We visited 『Home-for-All Rikuzentakata』in the morning today. Home-for-All is a house that got a first award in the 13th Venice Biennale last year. That house was built by a Japanese architect Toyo Ito and other staff as one of the support projects for the earthquake in 2011. Today we met Mikiko Sugawara who manages the house and we listened to her story. Sioned asked many questions to Mikiko-san and we could see her trying to understand things as much as possible. Also, Jay-san was listening to her story in earnest while taking notes. In the afternoon, we went to see around Ofunato city directly with our eyes and it seemed like their thoughts turned to the difference between Rikzuentakata and Ofunato city.
Today we could realize Sioned’s fertile inspiration again as well! When we were seeing the view from the rooftop at the house, she was playing with a chair by pretending it’s a photo frame or getting through the chair because the seats was taken away…We were amazed by her flexible ideas. After we left the house, she was saying that she thinks people in Rikuzentakata is always heading towards to the sea and seeing far away when they’re talking about the day. Also she said that it’s like she can see their memories from their face. It was a memorable moment that she was also heading towards to the sea as well. There might be something in her mind to express now thanks to wonderful people here.
